TROOP F NEWS RELEASE
December 17, 2013
Unrestrained Driver Killed in Morehouse Parish

On December 17, 2013, at 6:36 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 3051 east of Louisiana Highway 138.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Pontiac G6, driven by 36-year-old Latoyia Neal of Bastrop, was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 3051 when it lost control, drove off the right side of the road, overcorrected and traveled back to the left, across both lanes of travel before driving off the left side of the road where it struck a culvert.

Neal was not wearing her seat belt and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Neal was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner’s Office.

Impairment is not suspected. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Troop F has investigated 43 fatal crashes which have resulted in 51 deaths so far this year.
