TROOP F NEWS RELEASE August 2, 2014
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette, driven by 47-year-old Randal Jinks of Delhi, was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 132 when for an unknown reason it failed to stop at a stop sign. The Corvette then crossed Louisiana Highway 17, drove into a ditch and struck a dirt embankment. Jinks was not wearing his seat belt and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Jinks was pronounced dead on the scene by the Franklin Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Jinks was the tenth unrestrained person to die in a crash investigated by Troop F this year. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash Troop F has investigated 21 fatal crashes which have resulted in 21 deaths so far this year.
