The preliminary investigation revealed that 1995 Dodge pickup, driven by 47-year-old Bobby Childers of West Monroe, was traveling west on Interstate 20 when it drove off the left side of the road and into the median. The Dodge then traveled back across both westbound lanes, off the right side of Interstate 20 where it rotated counterclockwise and began overturning. Childers was properly restrained. Childers suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol use is suspected. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Many people are seriously injured or killed each year due to impaired driving. It is important to never get behind the wheel if you are impaired or to get in a vehicle with a driver who is impaired. This decision can prevent injury or death to yourself or others.
