TROOP F NEWS RELEASE November 2, 2013
The preliminary investigation revealed that 2004 Cadillac Escalade, driven by 63-year-old Howard Coleman of Monroe, was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 594 when it crossed the center line and struck a 2008 Honda Accord head on, driven by 17-year-old Dillon Neal of Monroe, that was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 594. Coleman was not properly restrained. Neal was properly restrained. Coleman and Neal suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. The passenger in the Honda was transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe with serious injuries. Troopers were unable to determine if the passenger was properly restrained. Alcohol use is not suspected. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. While the exact cause of this crash has not been determined, inattentive and distracted driving are leading causes of crashes in our state. Distracted driving is unsafe, irresponsible and in a split second its consequences can be devastating. More information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distraction.gov.
