TROOP F NEWS RELEASE March 22, 2014
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by 21-year-old Stacy George of Oak Grove, was traveling north on Tucker Road when it traveled off the left side of the road then back onto the road before it overturned several times. George was wearing his seat belt, received moderate injuries and was transported to Morehouse General. One passenger, 33-year-old April Fabela of Oak Grove, was not wearing her seat belt, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner’s Office. A second passenger left the scene before police arrived. Impairment on the part of George is unknown. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. George was cited for careless operation and driving with a suspended license. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Troop F has investigated 6 fatal crashes which have resulted in 6 deaths so far this year.
