TROOP F NEWS RELEASE July 1, 2014
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1993 Ford truck driven by 42-year-old Gregory Hinton of Choudrant, was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 821. For reasons still under investigation the Ford truck traveled through a stop sign and struck a 2005 Ford Taurus, driven by 49-year-old Trekina Williams of Arcadia, that was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 33. The Taurus then traveled into a parking lot and struck a parked 2013 Chevrolet truck. Hinton was wearing his seat belt and did not report any injuries. Williams was wearing her seat belt, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner’s Office. The passenger in the Taurus, 51-year-old Cedric Williams, was wearing his seat belt, reported moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital in Ruston. The passenger and only occupant of the Chevrolet truck reported minor injuries. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. Hinton was issued a citation for failure to yield at a stop sign and driving with an expired driver’s license. The crash remains under investigation. While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, inattentive and distracted driving contribute to a significant number of crashes in our state. Information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distraction.gov. Troop F has investigated 15 fatal crashes which have resulted in 15 deaths so far this year.
