TROOP F NEWS RELEASE July 5, 2014
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1988 Ford Mustang, driven by 44-year-old Troy Williams of Cordova, Tennessee, was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 577 when it did not stop at a stop sign and traveled through the intersection of Louisiana Highway 877. The Ford then traveled into a ditch and struck an embankment. Williams was not wearing his seat belt and suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. Williams was transported to a hospital in Delhi where he died. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chance of survival in a violent crash increases significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most important thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Impaired driving continues to be a significant problem on Louisiana roadways. To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency. Troop F has investigated 16 fatal crashes which have resulted in 16 deaths so far this year.
