TROOP F NEWS RELEASE April 2, 2014 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Jackson Parish On April 2, 2014, at approximately 7:35 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle crash on US 167 at LA 155 near Quitman that claimed the life of a woman from Jonesboro. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Lincoln Town Car driven by 56-year-old Maraine Hall of Jonesboro was attempting to enter US 167 from LA 155 and pulled directly in front of a 2010 Toyota driven by 49-year-old Michael Cunningham of Monroe. Cunningham attempted to avoid collision with Hall but was unable to do so. Cunningham’s Toyota struck Hall’s Lincoln in the driver’s door. Hall was not wearing her seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Hall was pronounced dead on the scene by Jackson Parish Coroner’s Office. Cunningham was wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. He was transported to Jackson Parish Hospital. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Stops signs require drivers to carefully ensure they are yielding the right-of-way to other vehicles. Unfortunately, many crashes in our state are caused by inattentive and distracted driving. More information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distraction.gov. Troop F has investigated 8 fatal crashes which have resulted in 8 deaths so far this year.
