Lake Providence Man Shot During Altercation
East Carroll Parish- On April 9, 2014, investigators with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations arrested a Lake Providence man for attempted 2nd degree murder.
Investigators were contacted by East Carroll Sheriff Wydette Williams to assist with the investigation of a shooting that occurred in Lake Providence on 1st Street outside an apartment complex at approximately 3:00 p.m. on April 9.
Investigators discovered that Marquis Smith, 19 years-old of Lake Providence, shot Kedrick Rice, 27 years-old of Lake Providence, with a small caliber handgun several times during an altercation the two were having.
Rice was taken to a hospital in Monroe and is in critical condition. Smith was charged with attempted 2nd degree murder and was booked in the East Carroll Detention Center.
Smith faces up to 50 years in prison without the benefit of parole if convicted.
