TROOP F NEWS RELEASE April 25, 2014
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 26-year-old Richard Stanley of Farmerville, was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 15 when it crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2014 Freightliner 18-wheeler, driven by 35-year-old Cedric Williams of Vicksburg, Ms., that was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 15. Stanley was wearing his seat belt. Stanley suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Union Parish Coroner’s Office. Williams was wearing his seat belt and did not report any injuries. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Troopers remind drivers that distractions inside or outside of the vehicle remain factors in crashes. Distracted driving is any activity which diverts a driver’s attention away from the primary task of driving. Distractions include texting, eating or drinking, talking to passengers or even using a navigation system. By reducing distractions drivers can reduce the risk of being involved in a crash. Troop F has investigated 10 fatal crashes which have resulted in 10 deaths so far this year.
