Multi-Vehicle Crash Claims The Life of an Arkansas Man

East Carroll Parish-On August 2, 2015 at 2:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a report of a three vehicle crash on US Highway 65 that claimed the life of an Arkansas man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva driven by 49-year-old Sandra Edington of Hot Springs, AR, was stopped on the south bound shoulder of US 65 due to engine trouble. A 1985 BMW Motorcycle driven by 54-year-old King Trieschmann of Lake Providence had stopped in front of Chevrolet Captiva to assist with the engine trouble.

Both Trieschmann and Edington were standing in front of the Chevrolet Captiva, when a south bound 2003 Ford F-150 driven by 71-year-old Donald Smith of Dumas, AR ran off the right side of the roadway and struck both parked vehicles. Trieschmann and Edington sustained moderate injuries during the crash. The passenger of the Chevrolet Captiva 64-year-old Charles LeCompt also of Hot Springs, AR was sitting in the passenger seat at the time of the crash and sustained life threatening injuries. LeCompt was later transported to River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, MS by air and later died as a result of his injuries.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, but toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers want to take this time to remind motorists how important it is to follow the “Move Over Law” by merging to the left lane when you encounter a stopped motorist on the roadside. Troopers aggressively enforce this law to avoid these types of tragic crashes. Also you can be proactive and take extra steps such as assuring that your vehicle is in good working conditions prior to making your trip. By checking your vehicle and making sure your fuel tank is full, you can significantly decrease your chances of being stranded on the roadside.
