Motorcyclist Dies in Union Parish Crash

Farmerville, LA – A motorcyclist died late yesterday afternoon after being struck by another vehicle.

Shortly after 6:00 p.m., on August 12, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a three-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Louisiana Highway 33 just south of Farmerville in Union Parish.

The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed 28-year-old Zachary Colvin of Dubach, LA, was driving a 2011 GMC Sierra south on LA 33 when it struck a 2013 Volvo 18-wheeler in the rear. The 18-wheeler was stopped to make a left turn onto a private drive. After striking the 18-wheeler, the GMC began to overturn and traveled into the northbound lane of LA 33. A 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by 57-year-old Gregory Cox of Downsville, LA, was traveling northbound and struck the GMC as it was rolling over. Cox, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Union Parish Coroner’s Office.

Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation.

Colvin, who was wearing his seatbelt, was not injured in this crash and cited for careless operation.

In 2015, Troop F has investigated 30 fatal crashes resulting in 32 deaths.
