TROOP F NEWS RELEASE April 10, 2017 Passenger Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash in Ouachita Parish Monroe, LA– A woman died last night after the vehicle she was a passenger in hit a utility pole after being struck by another vehicle. Shortly before 5:30 p.m., on Sunday April 9, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a crash on LA 139 at Rowland Road. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 Buick Regal, driven by 31-year-old Ryan Odom of Monroe, LA, was traveling south on LA 139 when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Rowland Road. The Buick traveled into the path of a northbound 2002 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by 40-year-old Tracy McCarty of Monroe, LA. After impact, the Chevrolet Blazer traveled off the road, began overturning and struck a utility pole. Although she was properly restrained, a passenger in the Blazer, 39-year-old Terra McCarty of Monroe, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Odom was not injured during the crash and was cited for improper turn and driving with a suspended license. The crash remains under investigation. Although the investigation remains ongoing and the exact cause of this crash is still under investigation, Troopers urge motorists to avoid all distractions while driving. Distractions, such as cell phones, passengers, radios, etc., take a driver’s focus away from the road.
