TROOP F NEWS RELEASE December 28, 2016 Head-On Crash Claims the Life of a West Monroe Man West Monroe, LA—A West Monroe man died earlier today after crossing the center line and striking another vehicle head-on. Shortly before 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 838 just west of Well Road. The initial investigation by State Police revealed 32-year-old Edward Reneau of West Monroe was driving a 2005 Mazda MX6 west on LA 838. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled into the eastbound lane of LA 838 and struck a 2002 Honda Odyssey, driven by 23-year-old Rebekah Smith of Farmerville, LA. Reneau, who was properly restrained, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Smith who was also properly restrained was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries. A one year-old child, who was restrained in the Honda, was not injured during the crash. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. In 2016, Troop F has investigated 37 fatal crashes resulting in 38 deaths.
