Winnsboro Man Dies in Crash While Riding a Lawn Mower

Winnsboro, LA—A Winnsboro man lost his life yesterday after the riding lawn mower he was driving was struck by a car.

Shortly before 5:50 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a crash that occurred on LA Hwy 3201 just south of Winnsboro. The crash took the life of 66-year-old Samuel Reynolds of Winnsboro, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed Reynolds was driving a lawn mower, in the roadway, eastbound on LA Hwy 3201 at a slow rate of speed. This resulted in an eastbound 2003 Lincoln Towncar, driven by 51-year-old Curtis Hilbun of Wisner, LA, colliding with the lawn mower from behind.

Reynolds suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin Parish Coroner’s Office. Hilbun, who was properly restrained, was not injured in the crash.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

In 2016, Troop F has investigated 35 fatal crashes resulting in 36 deaths.
