TROOP F NEWS RELEASE June 22, 2017 Ruston Woman Dies in Ouachita Parish Crash Ouachita Parish – Yesterday, a woman from Ruston was killed after losing control of her vehicle and striking a parked dump truck. On June 21, 2017, shortly after 7:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a crash on Interstate 20 just west of West Monroe. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2016 Mercedes L30, driven by 53-year-old Christie Wheeler of Ruston, was traveling west on Interstate 20. For reasons still under investigation, the Mercedes traveled into the median and struck a dump truck that was parked and unoccupied in the median. Wheeler, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. A routine toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. In 2017, Troop F has investigated 17 fatal crashes resulting in 17 deaths.
