TROOP F NEWS RELEASE August 19, 2015 Unrestrained Man Killed in Late Night Crash Calhoun, LA – A man from West Monroe died late yesterday after losing control of his vehicle in Ouachita Parish. Shortly before 7:30 p.m., on August 18, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Louisiana Highway 546 just south of Interstate 20. This crash took the life of 22-year-old Jacob Jones of West Monroe, LA. The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed Jones was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 west on LA 546. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the roadway and the driver overcorrected. After overcorrecting, the vehicle traveled off the road and struck a utility pole. Due to the driver not being restrained, he was ejected and taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt on every trip, whether it’s short or long, is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seatbelt. In 2015, Troop F has investigated 31 fatal crashes resulting in 33 deaths.
