Quitman Man Killed in Jackson Parish Crash

Quitman – A Quitman man died yesterday after the vehicle he was driving was struck by another vehicle.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 22, 2017, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 167 at the intersection of Old Quitman Highway. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 86-year-old Eddie Barnes Sr. of Quitman, was traveling across both south bound lanes from Old Quitman Highway. As Barnes was traveling across US 167, his vehicle was struck by a 2016 Ford F-150, driven by 35-year-old Jesse Lamey of Ruston.

Barnes, who was not restrained, was pronounced dead on scene by the Jackson Parish Coroner’s Office. Lamey, was properly restrained, was not injured in the crash.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt on every trip, whether it’s short or long, is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seat belt.

In 2017, Troop F has investigated 33 fatal crashes resulting in 34 deaths.
