TROOP F NEWS RELEASE December 17, 2017 Columbia Man Killed in Caldwell Parish Crash Columbia - A Columbia man has died after the vehicle he was driving traveled off the road, struck a culvert and a large tree. Shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Hwy 133 just north of Louisiana Hwy 4. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 58-year-old Jimmy Sears of Columbia, was traveling north on LA Hwy 133 around a right hand curve. Sears failed to negotiate the curve and traveled off the road. After traveling off the road, the vehicle struck a culvert, became airborne, and struck a tree. Sears, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead by the Caldwell Parish Coroner’s Office. A toxicology sample was obtained from Sears and will be submitted for analysis. In 2017, Troop F has investigated 35 fatal crashes resulting in 36 deaths.
