Unrestrained Driver Dies in Ouachita Parish Crash

Fairbanks – An unrestrained woman lost her life this morning after the vehicle she was driving traveled off the road and began overturning.

Shortly after 2:45 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 134 approximately 5 mile east of US Hwy165. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2016 Honda CRV, driven by 26-year-old Megan Jackson of Sterlington, was traveling east on LA Hwy 134 when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the road. Jackson overcorrected and traveled across both lanes and struck a ditch embankment. After striking the embankment, the vehicle began to overturn.

Jackson, who was not restrained, was ejected during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office.

A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

In 2017, Troop F has investigated 28 fatal crashes resulting in 29 deaths.
