TROOP F NEWS RELEASE June 28, 2017 Passenger Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in Madison Parish Waverly– A Georgia man died after the vehicle he was a passenger in traveled off the road and struck a tree. On June 28, 2017, shortly before 4:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 just east of Delhi. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country van driven by 67-year-old Mary Wilson of Augusta, GA, was traveling west on I-20. The preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle traveled off the road into the median. The driver overcorrected, traveled across both lanes, and struck a large tree. Although he was properly restrained, a passenger in the van, 68-year-old Robert Wilson of Augusta, GA, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner’s Office. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Mary Wilson, who was properly restrained, was not injured during the crash. A 13-year-old passenger in the van, who was also properly restrained, received moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The crash remains under investigation. In 2017, Troop F has investigated 19 fatal crashes resulting in 19 deaths.
