On Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office (MPSO) responded to a shooting at 800 Tank St. in Tallulah that left one man dead and another in critical condition. Upon arrival deputies found 19-year-old Trashaun Smith and 19-year-old Rodrick Bowman. Both had been shot. Bowman was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith was airlifted to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

At the request of MPSO, the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations was contacted and asked to conduct the investigation. Through investigation, it was determined that 18-year-old Demarious Hicks of Tallulah was the person who shot the two men. Hicks was arrested for 2^nd degree murder and attempted 2^nd degree murder. Hicks was booked at the Madison Parish Jail without incident.
