On Sunday, November 15, 2015, the Tensas Parish Sheriff’s Office and St Joseph Police Department responded to a shooting in St. Joseph.

After the shooting, LSP Detectives were contacted and asked to assist with the investigation. After interviewing witnesses, it was determined 26-year-old Ettrick Polk of St. Joseph, LA and 19-year-old George Smith of St. Joseph, LA were involved in an altercation at a residence in St. Joseph. At some point during the altercation, Smith brandished a weapon and fired it at Polk striking him twice. Polk was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

As a result of the investigation, George Smith was arrested and charged with 2^nd degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Smith was booked at the Tensas Parish Jail without incident.
