TROOP F NEWS RELEASE January 26, 2016 Bastrop Man Killed in Morehouse Parish Crash Bastrop, LA—A man lost his life this afternoon after traveling off the road and striking a tree. Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on January 26, 2016, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 139 approximately 8 miles south of the city of Bastrop. This crash took the life of 45-year-old James Girtmon of Bastrop, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed Girtmon was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer north on LA 139. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the road and struck a tree. Girtmon, who was properly restrained, was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. In 2016, Troop F has investigated 4 fatal crashes resulting in 4 deaths.
