TROOP F NEWS RELEASE August 25, 2015 Unrestrained Woman Killed in Late Night Crash Eros, LA – A woman from West Monroe died late yesterday after losing control of her vehicle in Jackson Parish. Shortly before 8:00 p.m., on August 24, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Louisiana Highway 34 just north of Eros, LA. This crash took the life of 35-year-old Wendy Marks. The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed Marks was driving a 1999 Ford Van east on LA 34. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a tree. After striking the tree, the vehicle overturned and came to rest on its side. Due to the driver not being restrained, she was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson Parish Coroner’s Office. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt on every trip, whether it’s short or long, is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seatbelt. In 2015, Troop F has investigated 33 fatal crashes resulting in 35 deaths.
