TROOP F NEWS RELEASE September 29, 2015 Unrestrained Man Killed in Evening Crash Monroe, LA – A man from Monroe died yesterday after losing control of his vehicle and striking a utility pole in Ouachita Parish. Shortly after 6:30 p.m., on September 28, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Louisiana Highway 841 just north of US Hwy 165. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Ford Explorer, driven by 32-year-old Sam Bass of Monroe, LA was traveling north on LA 841. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the roadway, across a ditch and struck a utility pole. Due to the driver not being restrained, he was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt on every trip, whether it’s short or long, is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seat belt. In 2015, Troop F has investigated 39 fatal crashes resulting in 42 deaths.
