TROOP F NEWS RELEASE October 15, 2015 Two People Killed After Running Stop Sign in East Carroll Parish Lake Providence, LA – Two people died yesterday after failing to stop at a stop sign and being struck by an 18-wheeler. Shortly before 8:00 p.m., on October 14, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US Highway 65 at the intersection of Panola Rd just north of Lake Providence. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Ford F-150, driven by unknown male, was traveling west on Panola Rd. A 2001 Kenworth 18-wheeler, driven by 35-year-old David Martinez of Pharr, TX was traveling south on US Hwy 65. For unknown reasons, the Ford F-150 failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by the 18-wheeler. The driver and passenger of the Ford F-150, whose names are not being released at this time pending notification to next of kin, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Ford were properly restrained but sustained fatal injuries due to the severity of the crash. Martinez was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation. In 2015, Troop F has investigated 40 fatal crashes resulting in 44 deaths.
