TROOP F NEWS RELEASE July 15, 2016 Fiery Two-Vehicle Crash Claims the Life of Calhoun Man Monroe, LA – Last night, one person lost his life due to his vehicle traveling the wrong way on Interstate 20. Shortly before 7:20 p.m. on Thursday July 14, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Interstate 20 approximately 4 miles east of the town of Monroe. The initial investigation revealed a 2015 Dodge Challenger, driven by 31-year-old Christopher Moss of Calhoun, LA, was traveling east on I-20 when for unknown reasons the vehicle crossed the median into the westbound lanes of travel. A 2016 Freightliner, driven by 63-year-old Timothy Ellis of Brandon, FL was traveling west on I-20 when it struck the Challenger. After impact both vehicles caught fire. Moss was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. Ellis, who was properly restrained, was not injured in the crash. A passenger of the Freightliner, who was also properly restrained, was taken to a local hospital for injuries. Routine Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. In 2016, Troop F has investigated 22 fatal crashes resulting in 23 deaths.
