TROOP F NEWS RELEASE August 28, 2016 Marion Man Killed in Late Night ATV Crash Union Parish –A Marion man died last night after the ATV he was driving ran off the road and struck a tree. Shortly after 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a fatality crash that occurred on Louisiana Highway 550 approximately 5 miles east of Louisiana Highway 15. The initial investigation revealed a 2011 Polaris ATV, driven by 45-year-old Kervin Atkins of Marion, LA, was traveling west on LA 550. For unknown reasons, the ATV ran off the road into the ditch and struck a tree. After striking the tree, both the driver and passenger, 43-year-old Dancia Atkins, were ejected from the ATV. Neither of the occupants was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Kervin Atkins sustained life threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The passenger survived, but was taken to a local hospital with injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation. In 2016, Troop F has investigated 27 fatal crashes resulting in 28 deaths.
