TROOP F NEWS RELEASE September 25, 2016 Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Morehouse Parish Crash Bastrop, LA—A Bastrop resident died last night after she was struck and killed by a vehicle while trying to cross U.S. Highway 165. Shortly after 12:45 a.m. on Sunday September 25, 2016, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a fatality crash on U.S. Hwy 165, approximately 1 mile south of the city limits of Bastrop, involving a pedestrian. The initial investigation revealed a 1994 Toyota Camry, driven by 73-year-old William Hendrix Jr. of Bastrop, was traveling north on U.S. Hwy 165 when the vehicle he was driving struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian, 38-year-old Lela Brandon of Bastrop, was struck while trying to walk across the northbound lanes of travel. Brandon was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Hendrix, who was properly restrained, was not injured during the crash Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. In 2016, Troop F has investigated 29 fatal crashes resulting in 30 deaths.
