Head-On Crash Claims the Life of a Marion Man

Farmerville, LA—A Marion man died earlier today after crossing the center line and striking another vehicle head-on.

Shortly before 2:15 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 33, approximately 4 miles south of the city of Marion.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed 77-year-old Johnny Caldwell, of Marion, LA, was driving a 1988 Buick Electra north on LA 33. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled into the southbound lane of LA 33 and struck a 2006 Ford F250, driven by a 17-year-old from Marion, LA.

Caldwell, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Union Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver of the F250 was properly restrained and received no injuries in the crash.

Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

In 2016, Troop F has investigated 30 fatal crashes resulting in 31 deaths.
