TROOP F NEWS RELEASE March 29, 2016 West Monroe Man Killed in Crash Union Parish – Earlier today, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man from West Monroe, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 11:10 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 15 near Cypress Creek Road. The crash involved a 2005 Mack (concrete mixer), driven by Justin David Hodge (W/M 26 yrs) of Farmerville, LA and a 2014 Toyota Camry, driven by Christopher R. Hawthorne (W/M 35 yrs). The Mack was northbound on LA Hwy 15 when Hodge came upon a northbound vehicle stopped, preparing to turn left. Hodge then applied his brakes and crossed the centerline before colliding with the southbound Toyota. Hodge was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. He was charged with careless operation. Hawthorne was wearing his seat belt, but was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. In 2016, Troop F has investigated eight fatal crashes resulting in eight deaths.
