TROOP F NEWS RELEASE April 2, 2016 Crash Claims Life of Unrestrained Driver Tensas Parish-On April 2, 2016, at 6:50 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on US Highway 65, around mp#43 that claimed the life of a St Joseph man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by 41-year-old Michael Vinson of St Joseph, LA was traveling south on US 65 when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle crossed the center line, exited the left side of roadway, and struck a group of trees. Vinson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected during the crash, and pronounced dead at the scene by the Tensas Parish Coroner. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash. A toxicology sample was obtained from Vinson and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash and is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves.
