TROOP F NEWS RELEASE April 3, 2016 Alcohol Suspected in Ouachita Parish Fatal Crash Ouachita Parish – Last night, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man from West Monroe, LA and injured a man from Downsville, LA. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor related to the deceased driver. Troopers responded to the crash around 9:50 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 15 at Glen Acres Road. The crash involved a 2002 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Neron Gonzales Bravo (O/M 36 yrs) and a 2004 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Donald McCarty (W/M 42 yrs). The Impala was southbound on LA Hwy 15 when Bravo lost control and crossed the centerline. This action resulted in the Impala colliding with the northbound pickup. Bravo was wearing his seat belt, but was pronounced dead at the scene. McCarty was wearing his seat belt and received minor injuries. He was transported to Glenwood Regional Medical Center for treatment. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects. While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. In 2016, Troop F has investigated ten fatal crashes resulting in ten deaths.
