TROOP F NEWS RELEASE June 4, 2016 Winnsboro Police Officer Killed in Crash Franklin Parish-The Louisiana State Police is investigating an early morning crash that claimed the life of an on-duty Winnsboro Police Officer. On June 4, 2016, at 4:40 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 4 just west of US Highway 425 in Franklin Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed 34-year-old Officer Derrick M. Mingo of the Winnsboro Police Department was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 4 in his assigned 2011Dodge Charger when he lost control of his vehicle, exited the right side of the roadway, and struck a tree while responding to call for assistance from the Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office. The surface of the roadway was wet due to rain at the time of the crash. The vehicle was severely damaged and Officer Mingo sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Officer Mingo was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin Parish Coroner. Troopers do not suspect impairment to be a factor in this crash. A routine toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Contact Information: | |||
