TROOP F NEWS RELEASE June 12, 2016 Passenger Succumbs to Injuries after Two-Vehicle Crash in Franklin Parish Baskin, LA—A Winnsboro man died yesterday due to injuries he sustained during a rear-end crash. Shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 425 approximately 2 miles south of the city of Baskin. The initial investigation by State Police revealed a 16-year-old unlicensed driver was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 north on US 425. The driver of the Ford was slowing to make a turn onto Campbell Road when it was rear-ended by a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by 22-year-old Jeremy Austin of Gilbert, LA. After impact the Ford entered the median and rolled onto its roof. A passenger in the Ford, 74-year-old Robert Miller of Winnsboro, LA, who was properly restrained, was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. In 2016, Troop F has investigated 15 fatal crashes resulting in 16 deaths.
