Unrestrained Bastrop Man Killed in Late Night Crash

Bastrop, LA—A man lost his life last night after losing control of his vehicle in Morehouse Parish.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. on June 16, 2016, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 140 approximately 8 miles east of the community of Log Cabin. This crash took the life of 49-year-old Phillip Hall of Bastrop, LA.

The initial investigation revealed Hall was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado west on LA 140. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the road and began to rollover. Hall, who was unrestrained, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner’s Office.

A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt on every trip, whether it’s short or long, is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seatbelt.

In 2016, Troop F has investigated 16 fatal crashes resulting in 17 deaths.
