LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release January 2, 2008
Autopsy Requested for Deceased Driver
On January 2, 2008 at about 7:38 am, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers were dispatched to Jackson Parish in response to a reported fatality crash. The incident occurred on LA 34 at milepost 51.8 in a relatively straight section of the roadway. A northbound 2002 Chevrolet pick-up ran off the right side of the road and entered a ditch where it continued for a short distance before coming to a stop in some tall grass. Troopers are investigating the incident as a crash, but the investigation shows that the truck did not hit anything significant and the damage was not consistent with what we normally see in fatal crashes. The driver of the truck, identified as Willie Robicheaux Jr, a 72 year old Franklin, LA man, was found dead behind the wheel and was removed from the vehicle by emergency personnel, because the grass beneath the truck caught on fire and the vehicle became engulfed in flames. Robicheaux had been removed from the vehicle before the truck caught on fire and had no obvious injuries from the crash itself. An autopsy has been requested in the case to determine the exact cause of death. Because there was no significant damage to the truck, prior to the fire, its is believed that a preexisting medical condition contributed to the death of Robicheaux. The crash is still under investigation and alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor.
