Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: July 28, 2011 Teen Killed In Avoyelles Crash Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a teen from Moreauville, LA Troopers responded to the crash around 3:30 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 451 near Bordelonville, LA. The crash involved a 2007 Nissan pickup, driven by Ryan D. Fontenot (W/M 19 yrs) of Moreauville. The Nissan was north bound on LA Hwy 451 when Fontenot lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the right side of the roadway, the vehicle reentered the roadway before exiting the left side of the roadway and collided with a tree. Fontenot is suspected of being impaired while driving. It is unknown if he was wearing his seatbelt. He received moderate injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center for treatment. His only passenger, identified as Dakota J. Martin (W/M 19 yrs), was pronounced dead. It is unknown if he was wearing his seatbelt. Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E troopers have investigated 36 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 38 fatalities.
