Toddler Seriously Injured In Avoyelles Parish Crash

Earlier today, a single vehicle crash seriously injured a toddler and injured seven other people.

Troopers responded to the crash around 2:30 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 1 in Fifth Ward. The crash involved a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire, driven by Melissa P. Mose (W/F 24 yrs) of Moreauville, LA. The Pontiac was north bound on LA Hwy 1 when Mose lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a utility pole before overturning several times.

Mose was not wearing her seatbelt and received minor injuries. She refused medical attention. Casey Guillot (20 yrs) of Marksville, LA, Nicholas Dupuy (24 yrs) of Marksville, LA, Benjamin Dupuy (24 yrs) of Marksville, LA, Channing Whiddon (21 yrs) of Cottonport, LA, and three juveniles (3 yrs, 4yrs, and 11 yrs) were occupants in Mose’s vehicle. The three year old received serious injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center. The four year old received moderate injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center. The eleven year old received moderate injuries and was transported to Avoyelles Medical Center. Nicholas Dupuy and Benjamin Dupuy received moderate injuries and were transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center. Guillot received moderate injuries and was transported to Avoyelles Medical Center. Whiddon received minor injuries, but refused medical attention. None of the children or adults were properly restrained.

Mose was charged with careless operation, no seatbelt, and no child restraint (2 counts).

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”
