| TROOP E - NEWS RELEASE August 8, 2011 Teen Dies in Natchitoches Parish Crash Natchitoches Parish – On August 8, 2011, at approximately 3:39 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Campti Bayou Rd in Natchitoches Parish. The investigation revealed that a 1988 Chevrolet truck was traveling west on Campti Bayou Rd, at an apparent high rate of speed, when the teen driver lost control of the vehicle and crossed into the eastbound lane. The driver then swerved back to the westbound lane where the vehicle began to rotate counter-clockwise. The truck ran off the right side of the road where the vehicle over-turned and came to rest on its roof. Three juveniles were in the truck at the time of the crash and none were wearing a seat belt. A sixteen-year-old passenger in the truck was transported to the Natchitoches Parish Hospital, but later died. A second passenger, a fifteen-year-old was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries The driver, a 16-year-old male, received minor injuries in the crash and was transported to the Natchitoches Parish Hospital for treatment. While impairment is not suspected in the crash, routine toxicology tests are pending. The juvenile driver will be charged with negligent homicide. The crash remains under investigation. Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for children over the age of four. While not all crashes are survivable, your best chance of surviving a serious crash is to properly wear a seat belt or to be correctly restrained in an age and size appropriate child seat.
