Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: July 13, 2011 Late Night Crash Kills Young Pitkin Man Late last night, a single vehicle crash killed a young man from Pitkin, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 11:35 pm, which occurred on Bailey Road east of US Hwy 171 in Vernon Parish. The crash involved a 1999 Ford pickup, driven by Kevin M. Johnson (W/M 21 yrs). The Ford was east bound on Bailey Road when Johnson lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle began overturning. Johnson was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. He was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask for you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E troopers have investigated 32 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 33 fatalities.
