Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: July 9, 2011 Natchitoches Parish Fatal Crash Yesterday afternoon, a single vehicle crash killed an elderly man from Campti, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 3:30 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 71 at Fairview Alpha School. The crash involved a 2004 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Andrew J. Cox (W/M 81 yrs). The Chevrolet was south bound on US Hwy 71 when Cox lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a fence and two trees. After the collision with the trees, the vehicle began to overturn while rotating. Cox was wearing his seatbelt and was initially believed to have moderate injuries. He was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA where he was later pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E troopers have investigated 30 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 31 fatalities.
