Child Abduction Training Unites Law Enforcement For Common Cause

This week, law enforcement agencies from across the Troop E region united in Alexandria at the Alexandria Police Department. This collaborated effort is a response for the need for a higher level of training and need to reduce the potential risk to a potentially abducted child.

Recently, Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent, tasked the LSP Criminal Investigative Division with creating a comprehensive plan to enact in an event of an abducted child. This plan would encompass assistance from various state and federal agencies, as well as local police departments and sheriff departments.

Operation “Child Watch” is a program that is designed to rescue children from the potential abuse of child predators who prey on the innocence of a child. This added level of training will add to the safety and security of our precious children. Not only will this initiative bring together law enforcement personnel from different agencies and training backgrounds, but also it will bring together valuable resources.

The purpose of the Child Abduction Reaction Team is to create standardized training, standardized forms, job descriptions, team assignments, team responsibilities, resource identification, and activation guidelines. The goal of the Child Abduction Reaction Team is the rescue/recovery or safe return of an abducted or missing child, identification of a suspect or suspects, and when applicable, the arrest and successful prosecution of those involved.

The training was provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Louisiana State Police.
