Impairment Suspected Factor In Natchitoches Parish Fatal Crash

Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a young man from Flatwoods, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 2:45 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 119 south of I-49. The crash involved a 1997 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Andrew W. Setliff (W/M 22 yrs). The Chevrolet was south bound on LA Hwy 119 when Setliff lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle reentered LA Hwy 119 and exited the left side before colliding with a tree.

Setliff was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask for you to take one second to “buckle up”!

Troop E troopers have investigated 25 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 26 fatalities.
