Edmonson, Superintendent Troop E News Release – July 3, 2011 Deadly Crash in Avoyelles Parish Claims Life of Unrestrained Driver Avoyelles Parish – On July 2, 2011, at 8:07 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a single vehicle crash on LA 1192, just east of LA 1, in Avoyelles Parish. The crash claimed the life of a 46-year-old man from Marksville, LA. According to investigating troopers, 46-year-old Patrick M. Countee was traveling west on LA 1192 in a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina when the vehicle entered a curve to the left. For unknown reasons, the vehicle veered right and traveled off the right side of the roadway. Countee attempted to steer the vehicle back into the westbound lane of travel but overcorrected to the left. The vehicle re-entered the roadway and crossed both lanes of travel. Thereafter, the vehicle ran off the left side of the road, struck a mailbox and traveled into a grassy ditch. Countee was ejected after the vehicle collided head on with a tree. Countee was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported to Avoyelles Hospital in Marksville where he died from his injuries. Routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation. Troop E troopers have investigated 28 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 29 fatalities. | |||
