Alexandria Woman Killed In Vernon Parish Crash

Last night, a crash involving two vehicles killed a woman from Alexandria, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 8:00 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 28 at LA Hwy 469. The crash involved a 2008 Hummer, driven by Tyler J. O’Neil (W/M 20 yrs) of Tulsa, OK and a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by Marilyn M. Strange (W/F 52 yrs) of Alexandria, LA. The Hummer was south bound on LA Hwy 469, attempting to cross LA Hwy 28, when O’Neil failed to yield to the east bound Ford. This action caused the Ford to collide with the Hummer.

O’Neil was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. Anthony L. Miller (W/M 31 yrs) of Colorado Springs, CO, Sunthorn Pakkhemaya (O/M 43 yrs) of Peyton, CO, and Kristopher Gomez (O/M 20 yrs) of Fort Polk, LA were passengers in O’Neil’s vehicle. Miller and Pakkhemaya received minor injuries and were transported to Bayne Jones Military Hospital. Gomez was not injured. All three passengers were wearing their seatbelts.

Strange was wearing her seatbelt and received serious injuries. She was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

Troop E troopers have investigated 62 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 66 fatalities.
