Catholic Priest Arrested For Theft |
TROOP E - NEWS RELEASE
November 23, 2011
Catholic Priest Arrested For Theft Investigators from the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office arrested Father James A. Foster (W/M 66 yrs) yesterday for theft.
This arrest stems from an investigation where it was discovered that Foster, in the capacity as pastor of the parish, wrongfully obtained funds from the parish’s account(s). He issued checks to himself and used the parish’s credit card corporate account to permanently deprive the parish and/or diocese of these funds. The total amount of funds obtained by Foster from January 1, 2008 to present was in excess of $250,000.00.
The investigation was initiated after LSP received a request by the Catholic Diocese of Alexandria to investigate the activities of Foster. Foster was the pastor at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Natchitoches, LA during this time.
A warrant was obtained for Foster’s arrest and he was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center. He was charged with one count of theft (over $250,000.00).
