Alcohol Use Suspected in Rapides Fatal Crash

Rapides Parish- Early this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop E investigated a single vehicle crash on Turkey Creek Road one and a half miles from US 165. The crash claimed the life of a Glenmora man.

According to investigating troopers, on December 3, 2011, at 12:43 a.m., 49-year-old Bradley Cathey of Glenmora was driving a 2005 Ford truck east on Turkey Creek Road. Cathey was traveling at a high rate of speed as he entered a right curve. For unknown reasons, Cathey ran off the left side of the road, struck several small trees causing the vehicle to overturn. The vehicle came to rest on its roof in the eastbound lane.

Cathey was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers suspect alcohol was a factor in this crash. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Impaired driving continues to be a leading cause for fatal crashes across the state. State Police will continue its enforcement campaign to locate and remove impaired drivers from the road. Through educational programs, troopers will continue educating the public about the dangers of impaired driving. As the holiday season approaches, troopers remind drivers to make the responsible decision and designate a driver.

Louisiana State Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to wear their seatbelt. While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash it will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes.

Troop E troopers have investigated 65 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 69 fatalities.
