Pedestrian Killed In Grant Parish Crash Earlier tonight, a single vehicle crash killed a pedestrian from Colfax, LA.
Troopers responded to the crash around 7:50 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 71 near LA Hwy 158. The crash involved a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero, driven by Courtney D. Hayes (W/F 20 yrs) of Natchitoches, LA and a pedestrian, identified as Lorie Jackson (B/M 60 yrs). The Oldsmobile was north bound on US Hwy 71 prior to the crash. According to Hayes, Jackson was running south bound in the north bound lane near the center of the roadway. Hayes stated that she attempted to avoid the collision, but was unsuccessful.
Hayes was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured.
Jackson was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic. Troop E troopers have investigated 58 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 62 fatalities.
